Effect of Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (tens) on Primary Dysmenorrhea in Adolescent Girls
Objectives: Dysmenorrhea is a common problem among female adolescents. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of high-frequency Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) on primary dysmenorrhea and to compare it with placebo in a randomized controlled study. Methodology: Sixty four female aged between 14-18 years at the first day of their menstruation cycle randomly divide...
متن کاملTranscutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
TENS is a method of electrical stimulation which primarily aims to provide a degree of symptomatic pain relief by exciting sensory nerves and thereby stimulating either the pain gate mechanism and/or the opioid system. The different methods of applying TENS relate to these different physiological mechanisms. The effectiveness of TENS varies with the clinical pain being treated, but research wou...
متن کاملEffect of transcutaneous electrical Nerve stimulation on pain in subjects with primary dysmenorrhea
Background: Low back pain and pelvic pain are most common symptoms of Primary dysmenorrhea. Most commonly used treatments are pharmacological drugs. TENS has been found to be effective for primary dysmenorrhea according to Parisa P. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) can be given in pre-menstrual days or during menstrual cycle and in both phases TENS has been shown to be effecti...
متن کاملTranscutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for pain relief in labour.
BACKGROUND Transcutaneous nerve stimulation (TENS) has been proposed as a means of reducing pain in labour. The TENS unit emits low-voltage electrical impulses which vary in frequency and intensity. During labour, TENS electrodes are generally placed on the lower back, although TENS may be used to stimulate acupuncture points or other parts of the body. The physiological mechanisms whereby TENS...
متن کاملTranscutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for chronic low-back pain.
BACKGROUND Chronic low-back pain (LBP) affects a significant proportion of the population. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) was introduced more than 30 years ago as an adjunct to the pharmacological management of pain. However, despite its widespread use, the usefulness of TENS in chronic LBP is still controversial. OBJECTIVES The aim of this systematic review was to determi...
